A company festival for 30 of the Truly SMB team, running from evening into the next morning, designed to bring two newly merged teams together as one.

The brief

Two teams, one company, and a chance to really get to know each other.

Truly SMB had just been through a merger, and two teams of people were becoming one company. They wanted everyone to get to know each other on more than a surface level: to see each other's personalities, share what they know, and start working together as one team.

To make that happen, we took them out of the office and into the open air, with an overnight festival where people could relax and just be themselves.

So every game was played in mixed teams, and each one needed everybody's knowledge to win.

The games

Chosen to get two merged companies thinking, talking and laughing as one.

Each game was designed so nobody could win on their own. Teams had to talk, share ideas and lean on each other, which is exactly how you get to know someone.

WARM-UP

Design your team t-shirt

Before the games began, each mixed team designed their own t-shirts and came up with a team name. It gave everyone a relaxed, creative way to meet the people they didn't know yet and get those first conversations going.

GAME 01

The plank challenge

Each team got a pile of numbered planks, a picture of the finished shape and no instructions. The planks had to stay on the floor and touching, and the team had to work out how they fitted together.

Teams had practice runs to get faster, then went for a timed attempt when they were ready. It needed everyone's eyes and ideas at once.

GAME 02

The treasure hunt puzzle

Teams solved riddles hidden around the venue. Each one led to a puzzle piece with a letter on it.

Once they had every piece, they built the puzzle and worked out the secret word. Different people cracked different riddles, so everyone had a part to play.

GAME 03 · AS THE SUN WENT DOWN

Quiz croquet

A work quiz with a twist. Each question was about the work the two companies do, and every coloured ball stood for answer A, B or C. Teams had to agree on an answer, then knock that ball through the hoop. Pooling knowledge from both sides of the business was the only way to get them right.

GAME 04 · THE DECIDER

Balls and buckets: the final showdown

With the scores close, it all came down to the last game. Land a ball in a bucket and it's taken away, and the team with the fewest buckets left wins. It got very competitive, very loud and very funny, and it sent the energy through the roof for the rest of the night.

The result, in their words

New conversations, with no pressure.

People got talking to colleagues from teams they don't usually work with, or hadn't had the chance to meet yet. Two teams arrived, and one team went home.

The set-up

Every detail, styled by us.

Before the first guest arrived we dressed the whole site: Truly Fest branded throws and signage, flower-lined tables, bunting and festoon lighting through the trees, bell tents ready for the night, and a welcome gift for every guest.

About us

An idea born on a girls' weekend away.

In May this year, we headed off for a weekend of rest, relaxation and catching up. Somewhere amongst all the chatting, we came up with an idea that brought our passions together perfectly. Faye loves planning events and bringing creative ideas to life. Emily loves team building, developing people and delivering training.

Corporate events were the perfect way to combine the two, and just like that, EDGE was born. Now we create experiences that bring people together, encourage development and, most importantly, are fun. When people feel connected, included and happy to be part of a team, great things happen.
